Mit dem Glenfarclas 50 Jahre stellt die Glenfarclas Distillery in der schottischen Speyside eine auf 836 Flaschen limitierte Rarität vor. Der Launch steht im Zeichen des 50-jährigen Jubiläums von John Grant, Mitglied der Inhaberfamilie und heutiger Chairman der Brennerei, im Whiskybusiness. Gegen Ende der 1960er-Jahre, noch unter dem einstigen Distillery Manager Douglas MacDonald, wurde die Grundlage für diesen Single Malt Scotch Whisky gelegt. Über fünf Jahrzehnte erstreckte sich schließlich die Reifung, die vermutlich Glenfarclas-typsich exklusiv in Ex-Oloroso-Sherryfässern stattfand. Abgefüllt wurde die Rarität unter Aufsicht von Distillery Manager Callum Fraser und Managing Director Douglas Belford mit einem Alkoholvolumen von 50 Prozent, ohne Kältefiltration und ohne Farbstoff.
Die Wenigen, die in den Genuss des Glenfarclas 50 Jahre kommen dürften, erwartet laut den offiziellen Tasting-Notes ein Geruch nach Marzipan, Mandel und Zedernholz. Dazu komme süße und rauchige Spur, gefolgt von Apfelkompott und dunkler Schokolade. Am Gaumen reichlich sanfte dunkle Schokolade sowie Aromen von Treacle Toffee, Mixed Peal und etwas Rauch. Ein süßer Geschmack mit einer überraschenden Milde. Die Aromen sollen den Mund überziehen und in einem eleganten, weichen und langen Nachhall münden. Mit etwas Wasser zeige der Geruch etwas Torf und der Geschmack mehr Süße und Holz.

To me, this dram is exquisite. It has an incredible depth of character and showcases every element of the whisky making process – from the earthy smell of the dunnage warehouse through to the light, natural smokiness of the Speyside peat that was used back then and the unique taste of the water we use in our production process. A whisky that evolves over time, both on the nose and on the palate, is truly exciting as it’s ever changing and developing. I hope the distillery manager in 50 years time is as impressed as I am by the quality of the spirit we are laying down for the future, today.“

Jüngst ist eine unbekannte Anzahl der insgesamt 836 Flaschen des Glenfarclas 50 Jahre in Deutschland eingetroffen. Die Verfügbarkeit wird sich auf den ausgewählten Fachhandel beschränken. Eine unverbindliche Preisempfehlung für den deutschen Markt hat uns nicht erreicht. In Großbritannien werden 9000 Britische Pfund für die 0,7-l-Flasche inklusive Geschenkbox fällig.
