Am Abend des 18. Januar 2014 erzielte ein sechs Liter fassender Dekanter des The Macallan ‚M‘ ein Gebot von 628.000 US-Dollar im Rahmen einer Charityauktion von Sotheby’s in Hong Kong. Mit dem Gebot wurde ein neuer Guinness World Record aufgestellt. Seit 2010 hielt ebenfalls ein Whisky von The Macallan den Rekord: der The Macallan 64 Jahre in einem einzigartigen Lalique Cire Perdue Dekanter erreichte bei Sotheby’s in New York 460.000 US-Dollar.

Der nun versteigerte The Macallan ‚M‘ ist einer von insgesamt vier Abfüllungen, die in der Zusammenarbeit von Fabien Baron, Gründer und Creative Director von Baron & Baron, Silvio Denz, Präsident und CEO von Lalique, und Bob Dalgarno, Whisky Maker bei The Macallan, entstanden. Von den übrigen drei Dekantern wurden zwei von der Destillerie archiviert, während ein The Macallan ‚M‘ an einen privaten Sammler in Asien ging.
Bob Dalgarno kreierte den Whisky, der eine ihn prägende Reifung in ehemaligen, spanischen Sherry-Eichenfässern erfuhr. Bei den vier 6-l-Dekantern aus Kristallglas handelt es sich um die größten, die jemals von Lalique hergestellt wurden. Für die Fertigung jedes Dekanters, einschließlich der Eingravierung der Unterschriften von den drei Kooperationspartnern, wurden 17 Arbeiter und über 50 Stunden benötigt. Im Laufe der Herstellung erhielten die vier Dekanter Namen, wobei man sich an Kaisern des römischen Reiches orientierte – der versteigerte Dekanter trägt den Namen Constantine.
