Innerhalb ihrer Small Batch Series will die Glasgow Distillery neue Wege beschreiten und experimentelle Single Malts veröffentlichen. Das eigenen Angaben zufolge bisher größte Experiment der Brennerei in Glasgow in den schottischen Lowlands stellt der neue Glasgow 1770 Red Wine & Ruby Port Cask Finish dar. In diesem stecken zu gleichen Teilen ein Peated Single Malt mit Hauptreifung in Virgin-American-Oak-Cask und Finish in Ex-Bordeaux-Red-Wine-Casks sowie ein Triple Distilled Single Malt mit Hauptreifung in First-Fill-Bourbon-Casks und Finish in Ex-Ruby-Port-Casks. Destilliert wurden alle Bestandteile im Jahr 2018. Insgesamt sechs Fässer wurden Ende 2022 kombiniert und mit einer Fassstärke von 57,5 Prozent abgefüllt. Es entstanden 1925 Flaschen. Auf eine Kältefiltration wie auch auf eine Färbung verzichtete man.
Die offiziellen Tasting-Notes schreiben dem Geruch des Glasgow 1770 Red Wine & Ruby Port Cask Finish die Noten von roten Beeren und dunklen Früchten zu. Am Gaumen gebrannte Mandeln und kräftige Tabakblätter. Im Abgang zeige sich der Single Malt lang und würzig mit Spuren von rosa Beeren.
Mike Hayward, Gründer der Glasgow Distillery, sagt: „The foundation of our Small Batch Series has always been about pushing the boundaries of flavour profiles in whisky and our Glasgow 1770 Red Wine and Ruby Port Cask Finish takes this to the next level, marking our first foray into combining two distinct spirit styles with two distinct maturation processes. Married together in equal parts, our smoky peated and our smooth triple distilled whisky, finished in Bordeaux red wine casks and ruby port casks respectively. The peated whisky element offers a crisp, fruity and smoky experience while the triple distilled element contributes a lighter and smoother style with notes of summer berries and bright spice. Together, they harmoniously combine and balance beautifully, jointly offering notes of red berries and dark fruits on the nose, toasted almonds and tobacco on the palate and a long and spicy finish with hints of pink peppercorns. The response to previous limited runs in our Small Batch Series has been great, so we’ve increased the availability for this release to make it more accessible to our customers around the world.“
Wie viele der 1925 Flaschen des Glasgow 1770 Red Wine & Ruby Port Cask Finish im deutschen Fachhandel dieser Tage eintreffen, ist nicht bekannt. Die unverbindliche Preisempfehlung wird mit 79,90 Euro für die 0,7-l-Flasche inklusive Geschenkverpackung.
